Are You Afraid Of The Dark

I've only recently bought the first four seasons of Are You Afraid Of The Dark for a mere eighteen pounds. I thought it was a great deal - 52 episodes - over 20 hours of film. The local hmv offers you a deal of 6 hours, 3 dvds for 20. I've only managed to skim through the first two seasons, only seen a few from season three and I can already say that the eighteen bucks I payed were worth it. Heres the best & worst episodes of the ones I've watched -

BEST EPISODES

"The Tale of the Pinball Wizard" ~

A boy obsessed with pinball finds himself trapped in the mall at closing time—and the protagonist of a real life pinball game. He must use all of his skills to escape the enchanted mall, but soon learns that he is not the only one playing...

"The Tale of Locker 22" ~

A young girl is assigned a locker that takes her back to 1968, where she must save a girl named Candy Warren who used to have her locker and ended up dying in a science lab explosion. In reality, Candy Warren has her own Myspace page[1], a common practice where fans create a page for a character of fiction.

"The Tale of the Dream Machine" ~

An aspiring writer finds a typewriter that makes everything written come true, including a story about the death of his best friend. Loosely based on the short story "Word Processor of the Gods" by Stephen King.

WORST EPISODES

Theres not many of these but I've single-handedly picked out the worst out of the bunch -

"The Tale of the Hungry Hounds" ~

Mia Kirshner (from The Black Dahlia, The L Word and 24) stars as a girl who finds her aunt's old horse-riding jacket and becomes possessed by her spirit, who must feed her starving dogs in order to rest in peace.

Your thoughts and opinions may differ but I often thought to myself in this episode - "When is something exciting going to happen? - What is actually happening? When will this end...?" And I still don't get it.

"The Tale of the Frozen Ghost" ~

Clarissa Explains It All and Sabrina the Teenage Witch star Melissa Joan Hart guest stars in this story about a spoiled boy and his babysitter who, while visiting the boy's aunts, are haunted by the ghost of a boy who froze to death. This episode ends with gold coins streaming out of the fireplace, and solves the aunts money problems.

It wasn't at all scary, the boy's acting was lousy, props to Melissa though. It was actually pretty funny though - I mean, - the frozen ghost haunts the neighbourhood for a jumper? Kind of pointless to be honest.

"The Tale of the Bookish Babysitter" ~

A TV-obsessed boy is left with a babysitter who teaches the child the wonders of reading—by using magic to take him inside the stories.

I don't know what was annoying in this episode. I think it was the boy. The effects were awful, seriously the green slime that leaked out from the ghost was just disturbing. And the fact that the boy needed a stunt double to trip over was a little childish of him. Worst episode of the series.

Don't get me wrong - I love the series. But some episodes just differ - thanks for reading.
